Camping on Kuuku I’yu Ngaachi

Chuulangun Campgrounds sign at Portland Roads turn-off

Kuuku I’yu Northern Kaanju People welcome you to their Ngaachi in the uplands of Cape York Peninsula, northern Australia. Nestled on the banks of the upper Wenlock River, the Chuulangun Campgrounds are located on Aboriginal Freehold land in the bioculturally diverse Kaanju Ngaachi Wenlock and Pascoe Rivers Indigenous Protected Area (IPA).

Enjoy bush camping in peaceful surrounds where you might see Palm Cockatoos (Kila), Spotted Cuscus or the elusive Freshwater Crocodile (I’wai). Spend the day exploring, bush walking, bird watching or fishing. You might catch a couple of pan-size sooty grunter for dinner. After a lazy day cool down in the mountain-spring-fed waters of the Wenlock, then warm up in front of a cosy campfire while you gaze at the stars that look down on this ancient land.
