"If we don't protect the land, the land will destroy us, so we got to be part of that balance, we have to fit into that area"
DJC, Kuuku I'yu Northern Kaanju ElderOur Work
Chuulangun Aboriginal Corporation is committed to supporting its members and the wider Kuuku I’yu Northern Kaanju clan families to live and work on country, maintain culture and look after Ngaachi. We do this by initiating, developing and putting into action a range of work activities and projects on Chuulangun and surrounding clan estates on the Kaanju Ngaachi Wenlock and Pascoe Rivers Indigenous Protected Area (IPA). All our work is contained under the umbrella of our Land and Resource Management Framework which is ‘Ancient but New’ based on ancient principles of governance and land management in a new time. Our work benefits the growth and sustainability of our Chuulangun community and our Ngaachi today and into the future.

Sustainability to us means “proper management in place, proper governance in place for that area…whatever comes out from Payanamu is translated down to the stories in each clan estate…if we don’t look after the Story places, look after our culture, look after our tradition and grab hold of it, then we don’t exist” (DJC Kuuku I’yu Northern Kaanju Elder).
