Cultural and governance mapping is a main component of Chuulangun Aboriginal Corporation’s activities as it is a foundation for management of Ngaachi. The concept can also be applied more widely across Cape York and Australia, with the aim to ensure the correct Traditional Custodians to speak for country are consulted on management issues that affect their land and cultural heritage.
The cultural mapping product developed by Chuulangun Aboriginal Corporation is a way to improve efficiency and effectiveness across relevant commercial, environmental, social, and cultural interfaces. Spatial intelligence of Indigenous peoples is an asset to the region, and harnessing it to tackle complex and dynamic governance and decision-making processes is seen as critical to the short, medium and long-term development in Cape York Peninsula.
